Gill Scott initially trained as a teacher, worked in business running her own company and has worked with children with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. She discovered hypnotherapy when personal circumstances forced her to seek help.
"I'd always been interested in therapy and then, in middle age, I found myself in need of finding some answers," she explains.
"Many people think if they soldier on with stress they will eventually control it somehow, and I was no exception. But often what we really need is a bit of help. What I experienced from hypnotherapy in terms of stress relief was enormously useful - and a revelation. I looked better, felt better and life seemed - and became - more manageable”
So, Gill decided to train as a hypnotherapist and has since been practising as a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Counsellor.
"I was looking to re-start my career and was drawn to hypnotherapy because it fulfilled a need I'd always had to help people to help themselves, and I absolutely love the work," she explains.
"There's no better feeling that when you hear back from someone - especially someone who was initially sceptical, who says: 'Do you know something? I feel so different and I don't know why. My logical mind is telling me this shouldn't work, but it has'."
Much research has been done to understand how and why hypnotherapy works. But Gill prefers to focus on the 'live' evidence she sees firsthand each day.
"It can be a real struggle to achieve change in life - and some people ultimately choose not to, which is their prerogative." she says. "But not one person has left my practice without reporting at least some benefit from hypnotherapy."
Empathy is a critical quality people should look for in a hypnotherapist, Gill believes.
"Hypnotherapy is a co-operative process and choosing the right hypnotherapist comes down to finding someone you can trust and who is genuinely interested in helping you” she says.
"What I feel I bring to hypnotherapy is intuitiveness and an interest in people that's grown over many years. I have run businesses, managed staff and worked in a variety of situations with people from varying backgrounds and this has enabled me to truly understand a wide range of issues”
"All of this has also made me totally non-judgemental - in many ways, I've seen it all."

Although I am still a 'work in progress' I have begun to recognise my own strengths and taken your advice about doing something every day that lifts my spirits. Many thanks for your intuitive guidance.
